October 14, 1937— March 6, 2026
Santa Rosa, CA
Edward “Ed” Morrison, 88, passed suddenly on March 6, 2026, in Santa Rosa, California. Born on October 14, 1937, in Lorain, Ohio, Ed lived a life marked by curiosity, adventure, and deep devotion to family and community. After graduating from high school in San Francisco, he served in the United States Navy, an experience that ignited his lifelong passion for travel and exploration. He later earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of San Francisco.
Ed dedicated his career to teaching and educational leadership, first as a teacher and then as vice principal at Santa Rosa Middle School. He was known for his steady guidance and genuine care for students, leaving a lasting impression on many young lives. An active outdoorsman, he enjoyed backpacking, hiking, and camping, and found great companionship through his involvement with the SIRS group, where he shared in volunteering, walks, coffee, and the quiet support of friends in retirement. He also cherished the warm neighborly bonds he formed over the years in Santa Rosa’s Hidden Valley community.
At the center of Ed’s world was his family. He shared decades of love and adventure with his beloved wife, Carole, until her passing. In recent years he continued exploring with his children and grandchildren, including a memorable 16-day journey through five European countries with his daughter Christina and granddaughter Jessica, as well as RV travels with his son John and grandson Johnny. He is survived by Christina Cooper and her husband Henry, son John and his wife Maria, and grandchildren Katelyn, McKenzie, Jessica, Johnny, and Olivia, along with extended family. He was preceded in death by Carole and his son Jeff.
Ed delighted in the small, joyful moments—teaching Maria to drive a stick shift, sharing laughter over In-N-Out floats, playing Mexican train, cheering for his grandchildren’s successes, and gathering around campfires to tell stories. Thoughtful and inquisitive, he loved discussing life’s deeper questions and inspiring others with his reflections. Those who knew him will remember a man who embraced each day with wonder and generosity of spirit.
