October 13, 1932— March 7, 2026
Sauk Rapids, MN
Edward Louis Maier, age 93, of Sauk Rapids, passed away on March 7, 2026, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Born on October 13, 1932, in Sauk Rapids to Paul and Anna (Otremba) Maier, Ed graduated from Sauk Rapids High School in 1950. He married Helen Seifermann on September 16, 1954, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Soon after, he entered the Army and taught at the Signal School in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, from 1954 to 1956. Following his military service, Ed and Helen lived in Owatonna before returning to Sauk Rapids in 1970. He worked for IBM from 1956 until 1987, then founded Maier Typewriter Service, continuing to repair typewriters with great joy well into his later years.
Ed was deeply involved in his community. He and Helen joined the local Pantowners Antique Auto Club in 1997, sharing their 1931 Ford Model A Sport Coupe and 1959 Ford Skyliner Retractable in parades and events. He served 15 years on the Sauk Rapids-Rice School Board, as well as on the Benton County Historical Society, Benton County Park Board, and Benton County Board of Adjustment. A dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he served as a lector and choir member for many years.
Above all, Ed was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished playing cards, driving his antique cars, spending time at his beloved farm, and gathering with his family. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen of Sauk Rapids; children Patricia (Jerry) Parsoneault of Roseville, California, Joan (Tom) Frederickson of Ramsey, Mark (Julie) Maier of St. Cloud, Susan (Steve) Hendricks of Ramsey, and Christopher (Mary) Maier of French Lake; siblings Laura Rau of Bloomington, Millie Felling of Minneapolis, Abe (Carol) Maier of Clearwater, Sherry (Don) Wieber of St. Joseph, and Maxine Goebel of Albany; grandchildren Krista Lesnau, Aaron Knapek, Nicole Lucchese, Sara Cogger, Lee Frederickson, Edward Maier, and Lila Maier; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Michael in 2016 and siblings Alvira Schwinghammer, James Maier, Kathy Rosa, and Dorothy Schmitz.
