Edward Kent Ferguson

May 17, 1951 March 8, 2026

Kingwood, TX

Edward Kent Ferguson passed away on March 8, 2026. Born on May 17, 1951, in Powell, Wyoming, to John W. and Mary Ellen Ness Ferguson, he grew up alongside his brothers Robert and Lynn, and his sister Sally Labay. Raised in a close extended family that cherished the outdoors, Edward spent his early years in Powell enjoying camping, hiking, fishing, and family trips to Yellowstone, where he developed into an excellent fisherman. His father’s work with Amoco Oil led the family to several moves, and Edward also lived in Meeteetse, Wyoming, Kenai, Alaska, and Glendive, Montana.

He graduated from Glendive High School in 1971 and received a four-year National Science Foundation scholarship to the University of Wyoming, where he earned a degree in Physics and Engineering in 1975. Edward then began a 39-year career with Schlumberger as a seismic engineer, working offshore in New Orleans and Lafayette, Louisiana, and in Houston, Texas. He married Barbara Begnaud on November 21, 1981, in New Orleans. After many years dividing time between League City, Texas, and New Orleans, the couple settled in Kingwood, Texas, in 2009, where Edward eventually retired.

Though his work often took him to offshore rigs in the Gulf, Edward made the most of his time at home. He and Barbara shared a rich life of travel and adventure, skiing in Switzerland, visiting Venezuela, and deep-sea fishing in Jamaica. He took special pride in supporting his children and grandchildren, insisting that all seven complete their college educations. His generosity, kindness, and wisdom touched family, friends, and even strangers, inspiring those around him to become better versions of themselves. Standing 6’4” with a heart to match, Edward was one of the good ones, and anyone fortunate enough to know him was better for it.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, his brother Lynn, and his sister Sally Labay. Edward is survived by his stepchildren Tina, Frankie, and Dominic; his grandchildren Dominic II, Alyssa, Olivia, and Angelina; his brother Robert (Larae) Ferguson; his sister-in-law Linda Ferguson; and his cousins Patricia Wolfe, Lois (John) Ramirez, Earl (Phyllis Claudson), and Rita Claudson.
