Edward John Lynch, 93, of Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at home, surrounded by the loving care of his family.
Ed was married for 69 years to the late Mildred “Billie” Lynch. Together they raised six children in Royal Oak: Colleen (Dr. Ken Williams), Edward M., Suzanne (Clyde Mason), Timothy, Sharon, and Daniel. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Carrie (Keith), Robert (Christine), and Tess, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Born on October 20, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, Ed was proud of his Irish heritage and maintained a lifelong passion for music, often playing the accordion and piano. A graduate of St. Benedict High School in Highland Park, he earned both an undergraduate degree and an MBA from Wayne State University.
His distinguished career as an educator and administrator spanned many decades at Macomb Community College, where he served as professor of business and economics, Dean of Business, and Dean of Technology and Occupational Education. During the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s, he played a key role in expanding Applied Technological Programs at the college’s South and Center Campuses. A thoughtful and principled leader, Ed also contributed his expertise to numerous state and federal advisory committees and testified before Congress during the Gerald R. Ford administration. He will be remembered for his integrity, intellectual curiosity, and deep devotion to education and community, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues.
