Edward “Eddie” Pitta
March 23, 1934— March 8, 2026
Lowell, MA
Edward “Eddie” Pitta, 91, of Lowell, passed away on March 8, 2026, from complications related to injuries he suffered after a fall outside his home. He was the devoted husband of Pauline (Dube) Pitta, with whom he shared more than 71 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on March 23, 1934, to the late Jose and Mary (Santos) Pitta, Eddie attended local schools before enlisting in the United States Army in 1954. He served in Germany during the post-Korean War occupation and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He met Pauline at the Mera Bowling Alley in April 1952 and they married on November 6, 1954.
After his military discharge, Eddie worked at Stevens Mills and Raytheon before joining the Lowell Police Department in 1965. He served with pride until his retirement in 1992. In 1970, he received a commendation from the Lowell City Council and the Superintendent of Police for acts of courage and heroism at a general alarm fire on Central Street. In 1975, he earned his GED and attended night classes at the University of Lowell, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He often joked that he and his oldest son “graduated” high school the same year.
Eddie was known for his good-natured spirit, upbeat personality, and infectious smile. A loyal fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, he cherished attending Opening Day games at Fenway Park with his son Steve. He also enjoyed golf, casino trips, old Western movies, and spirited games of 45’s with his close friend Paul Demers. Above all, he found his greatest joy in the company of his family.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Pauline; his children, Edward “Skip” Pitta and his wife Diane of Dracut, Paula Daigle of Londonderry, NH, and Steven Pitta and his wife Darcie of Lowell; five grandchildren, Tim Pitta and his wife Ylan of Andover, Brian Pitta and his wife Courtney of Dracut, Matt Pitta and his fiancée Emma of Boston, Wendy Foote of Hudson, NH, and Kelly Gordon of Londonderry, NH; nine great-grandchildren, Cole, Austin, Noelle, Nora, and April Pitta, Emily and Paul Greenwood, Michael Delmore, and Alyson Dionne; and two great-great-grandchildren, David and Eileen Donovan. He is also survived by his sister, Caroline Young of Andover, his dear friend Paul Demers of Dracut, and several nieces and nephews.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings, Manuel, George, and Joseph Pitta, and Mary Abreu, Linda Chagnon, and Rose Barker.
