March 26, 1934— March 3, 2026
Belleair Bluffs, FL
Edward “Ed” Charles Gallmeier, age 91, of Belleair Bluffs, Florida, passed away on March 3, 2026. Born on March 26, 1934, in Vernon, Texas, to William “Bill” and Emily (Graf) Gallmeier, Ed grew up attending Zion Lutheran Church and its elementary school before continuing his education at Concordia Lutheran and Lockett High Schools. Drafted into the U.S. Army after graduation, he served in Korea. He later attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas, and Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. On June 19, 1960, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Huber.
Ed answered the call to Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Houston, Texas, where he served as a seventh-grade homeroom and history teacher and youth director for 14 years, and as principal for 23 years. He taught Sunday School, Bible class, Vacation Bible School, and Confirmation, coached girls’ sports, sang in the Senior Choir, and served as bus coordinator. He also contributed extensively to the Texas District of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, serving on numerous boards and committees, and was named Texas District Teacher of the Year in 1985. He retired in June 1999 and remained an active member of Trinity. In 2021, as his health declined, Ed and Liz moved to Belleair Bluffs, Florida, to be near their daughter.
Ed’s life was marked by the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, and goodness—each one evident in how he lived. He deeply loved his wife, daughter, family, church, and his Savior. Quietly joyful and radiating peace, he walked faithfully as a godly, kind, and devoted servant of Christ. He cherished fishing, sharing colorful stories of the ones that got away, and enjoyed playing dominoes, 42, Aggravation, Chicken Foot, bridge, and working on cars.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Ann (Huber) Gallmeier; daughter and son-in-law Ann and Jon Skilton; grandchildren Cody (Maddie), Jacob (Shiloh), Brandon (Hailey), Cassidie, and Marissa; great-grandchildren Norah, Colter, Chapel, Brinley, and Parker; sisters Aletha Jeske and Mildred Harmann; brothers Reverend Alfred Gallmeier (Kathy) and James Gallmeier (Carolyn); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.F. and Emily Graf Gallmeier, and his sister Katherine Michalk.
