Edward A. Massey, Sr., 96, of Estell Manor, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on March 10, 2026. Born on September 27, 1929, in Pleasantville, New Jersey, he was the son of Charles and Helen Massey. Edward grew up alongside his five brothers and one sister in a family deeply committed to service, with all the boys and their father having served in the military. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Private First Class during the Korean War.
In 1958, Edward married the love of his life, Irene, and together they raised their children in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, he held various positions over the years, including work at the Atlantic City Race Track, driving trucks for Duel Fuel Company, and serving as a part-time caddy at Linwood Golf Course, where he was recognized as a hero for saving a young girl who had fallen into an ice-covered stream. He later worked for Masset Building Company and was a proud member of the Laborers’ Union, retiring at age 62. Even in retirement, he remained active as a groundskeeper at the golf course until the age of 88.
In his younger years, Edward enjoyed playing football and later served as an umpire for Egg Harbor Township baseball. A devoted Catholic, he faithfully attended Mass throughout his life. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene Massey; his son, Steven Massey; and his great-granddaughter, Ashley Costantino-Massey.
Edward leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and a life well lived. He is survived by his daughters, Irene Massey, Barbara Bradley (Scott), and Monica Massey; his son, Edward Aloysius Massey Jr. (Catherine); his cherished grandchildren, Heather, Jeffrey, Sarah, John, Harry, Scott, Kaitlyn, and Edward Aloysius III; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
