Edward A. Burger

Williamsburg, PA

Edward A. Burger passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on January 7, 1931, in Blue Knob to Dorothy and Elwood Burger, Ed was one of seven children and is survived by his sisters June, Matt, and Romona.

On August 3, 1949, in Williamsburg, he married Helen Frye, the love of his life. He remained a devoted husband for 65 years until her passing in 2015. Ed was a loving and supportive father to his three children, Karen (Herm) Arnold, Larry (Joleen) Burger, and Christine (Mark) Hughes. Known affectionately as “Pap Ed,” he cherished his seven grandchildren—Michael and Jeff Rupeka, Jamie Houck, Kristie Burger, Cody and Casey Gorsuch, and Elle Detwiler—and his 14 great-grandchildren: Abigail and Andrew Rupeka, Tyler, Josh, and Lexi Rupeka, Justin and Juliana Houck, Avery Brown, Skylar, Raiden, Rowen, and Maverick Gorsuch, and Ashtyn and Foster Gorsuch. His warm smile whenever the children were near remains a cherished memory.

Ed attended Williamsburg High School and worked as a skilled welder, first at the Williamsburg Papermill and later retiring from Conrail after many years of service. He held a deep passion for the outdoors, particularly hunting. An avid turkey and deer hunter, he enjoyed spending time in the woods with his son Larry, building tree stands, and sharing his remarkable ability to call in gobblers. He was often seen driving his truck in his Conrail jacket, French vanilla cappuccino from Nic’s in hand, scanning the fields for wildlife. Ed loved talking about hunting with anyone who would listen and will long be remembered for his dedication to the sport.

He also took great pride in his garden, carefully tending it each year and generously sharing its bounty with family and friends.
