Edna Mae Spevak

Edna Mae (Zamadics) Spevak, 102, passed away on March 14, 2026, after a long and full life. Born in Bethlehem on July 27, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Donchez) Zamadics. Edna was the widow of Francis J. "Sonny" Spevak, Sr., with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Edna will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rebecca Donchez, Priscilla Reardon, Francine Spevak, Amy Tronolone, Francis J. Spevak, Jr. and wife Michele, Dawn Timko and husband Cyril, as well as grandchildren, Timothy Donchez, Brandi Reardon and G. Andrew Thomson, and great-grandchildren Caitlyn Day, Lily and Ansley Thomson. She is also survived by her sister Betty Peters.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Stephen, Eugene, and John Zamadics, Theresa Kotash, Christine Spevak, and Mary Delluva, as well as son-in-law Jon Reardon.

Edna was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Windish Church and attended St. Joseph's Parochial School. She graduated from St. Luke's Nurse's Aid program in May of 1945. She was a member of the school PTA and the National Ladies Auxiliary to the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALCA).

While she lived most of her life in Bethlehem, Edna and Sonny spent a number of years living in the home in the mountains that they built. She treasured the time spent in her dream home and the closeness to nature it provided. Whether at the home, in the mountains, or at their home in Bethlehem, family members looked forward to Edna's Sunday and holiday dinners and gathering together.

Edna enjoyed family trips to Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, California, Florida, and Hawaii. Her favorite outings, however, were going to the Phillies regular season and spring training baseball games. She loved her Phillies and watching their games brought her both joy and consternation!

Reading novels and poetry books, sewing, playing dominoes and BINGO, as well as participating in activities such as bean bag baseball, drumming and volleyball while a resident at Sterling Heights, were some of Edna's favorite pastimes. She participated in many of these activities even at age 102!

A life well lived. A Mother well loved. Rest in peace, Mom.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 6 - 8 pm at the Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's R.C. Windish Church, 413 E. Fifth Street, Bethlehem. Interment will be private.
