Edith Rose Johnson

October 27, 1939 February 28, 2026

Shawnee, OK

Edith Rose Rackley Johnson, 86, of Shawnee, passed away on February 28, 2026, after suffering several strokes.

Born on October 27, 1939, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Leo and Lelvia Rackley, Edith graduated from Shawnee Public Schools. She worked in a variety of jobs throughout her life, most notably supporting her husband in building Bill Johnson General Contracting, where she served as bookkeeper and secretary. In the 1990s, she partnered with her beloved sister Anna Rose to create Daydreamer Designs, whose distinctive creations earned recognition throughout the Oklahoma rodeo community.

In 1955, Edith met the love of her life, Bill Johnson. They married that same year and were blessed with two daughters, Jeannie and Debbie. After her daughters were grown and retirement arrived, Edith tended magnificent flowerbeds, enjoyed bird watching, fished at the family pond, and worked puzzles. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She and Bill delighted in spoiling them and hosting sleepovers, teaching them about flowers, sewing, and life’s simple joys. The memories of time spent in Nanny’s kitchen remain deeply treasured by all who knew her.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Johnson, her parents Leo and Lelvia Rackley, her sister Anna Rose, her brothers Carl and Jesse Rackley, her son-in-law Mike James, and her great-grandson Wyatt Merrick.

She is survived by her daughters Jeannie Casey and son-in-law Paul, Debbie James, her god-daughter Christie Koches, grandchildren Julie and Ronny Merrick, Jeffrey and Chelsea James, Jenessa Casey, and Austin Casey, great-grandchildren Kyleigh and Brynleigh Merrick and Jacob James, her sister-in-law Sherry Rackley, and many nieces and nephews.
