Edith was born on January 25, 1946, in Jupille, Belgium, to Edward Carl Gauthier and Madeleine Marie Demelenne. When Edith was eight years old, she traveled by ship with her parents and two siblings, Tom and Josette, to begin a new life in the United States. As young children, Edith and her brother Tom shared a close bond and even attended school together for a time. The growing family adjusted to life in a new country where they eventually settled in Wisconsin. Growing up in a busy farm household, Edith was part of a large family where daily life revolved around work, responsibility, and helping care for the younger children. Edith remained a steady presence in the background of family life. Edith enjoyed walking the mile into town from the farm to spend time in the peace of the church and stopping by Barney's to buy a pop and candy bar. She also found comfort in quieter routines such as crocheting, knitting, and sewing. There was always someone in the family receiving a blanket or other hand-crafted gift for their special occasion, made by Edith's hands and thoughtful heart. She spent her later years at Monroe Manor in Barron, WI, where she formed friendships and was cared for by staff, residents, and even other visitors who came to know her well. Her family extends their warm appreciation for the love and care she received while living at Monroe Manor. Edith is survived by her siblings: Tom (Lucy) Gauthier; Albert (Beverly) Gauthier; Roger (Patty) Gauthier; Ivette Hecimovich (Rick); Randy (Gabrielle) Gauthier; and many, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Madeleine, and her siblings Josette, Ed Jr., and Ricky. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11AM-1PM at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
