Edgar Ray Sebastian

Edgar Ray Sebastian, known to all as Ed, passed away on March 10, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.

Born one of seven children, Ed grew up on a dairy farm in Rockingham County. He served his country in the United States Navy during peacetime. After completing his service, he married Barbara Jean Paschal on December 30, 1960. He spent most of his working life at AMP Incorporated, where he was respected as a master welder and manager. A longtime member of Liberty Wesleyan Church, Ed found joy in fishing, gardening, watching westerns, and sharing his beloved dad jokes. He was also a devoted fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and Carolina Tar Heel basketball.

Preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Opal Harris Sebastian, and his siblings Peggy Tickle, Mattie Bansley, Lois Blackwell, Dean Sebastian, and Jessie Sebastian, Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Paschal Sebastian; his children, David Sebastian (Harriett), Eddie Sebastian (Felicia), and Janice Sebastian Wood (Craig); his grandchildren, Tyler Sebastian (Jessica), Holly Sebastian, Mackenzie Wood, Jacob Wood, and Logan Sebastian; his sister, Nannie Medley; and a large and loving extended family and circle of friends.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Angelene during Ed’s final days.
