Edgar E. Haldeman, age 96, a lifelong resident of Manheim, passed away on March 11, 2026, and entered the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ, where he was reunited with his beloved wife Dorothy, who passed in 2021. He was the son of the late Frank L. Haldeman and Beatrice Wenger Haldeman.
Despite a childhood injury that left him with the use of only his right arm, Ed never allowed it to limit him. He provided faithfully for his family and embraced life with determination and joy. He worked as a plumber and was a partner in the family business, F.L. Haldeman & Sons, until 1976. Seeking a better work-life balance, he then joined the plumbing department at Longenecker’s Hardware store in Manheim, where he served for 40 years until his retirement in 2016.
Ed cherished his close friendships with his shooting and hunting companions. He created many lasting memories on hunting trips to British Columbia, the western United States, and Potter County, Pennsylvania. An accomplished trapshooter, he won numerous prizes and trophies and was a member of the Manheim Sportsman Club and a lifelong member of the NRA. He also loved to travel with Dorothy, enjoying meaningful journeys to Israel, Egypt, Europe, Bermuda, and Hawaii. An avid photographer, he documented both his hunting adventures and family travels with skill and enthusiasm.
A longtime member of Pleasant View and Elizabethtown United Zion churches, Ed found deep importance in his church family, who provided him with steadfast care and support. He is survived by three daughters, Diane Weaver (Clifford), Terri Flatoff, and Lori Harshaw (Keith), one sister, Eileen Haldeman Miller, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jay and Lloyd Haldeman, and a sister, Lois Fern Heisey.
