Earnest Fluellen, affectionately known as “Flu,” passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at his residence. Born on April 1, 1953, in Camilla, Georgia, he was a cherished member of his community and a beloved family man whose gentle spirit and unwavering faith touched the lives of many.
A proud graduate of the Mitchell County High School class of 1972, Earnest dedicated much of his life to hard work and service. He contributed to the Georgia Department of Transportation and Cagle’s, and most notably served as a custodian at his alma mater, Mitchell County High School, reflecting his deep commitment to his community.
A man of deep spirituality, Earnest was known for his good heart and steadfast devotion to God. A longtime member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, he shared his love of singing as a cherished voice in the choir and found great joy in discussing spiritual matters with others. He also found quiet happiness in tending his yard, where he nurtured both the land and his own soul.
Earnest is survived by his loving wife, Mercedes Fluellen; four daughters; three stepchildren; three sisters; and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Amy and Willie Fluellen. He will be remembered as a good man with a generous spirit and a joyful voice who brought warmth and light to all who knew him.
