Earl Tomblin ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 10, 2026.Earl Tomblin, age 96, of Chapmanville, WV, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026.He was born September 10, 1929, in Whirlwind, WV, a son of the late Frank and Anna Mullins Tomblin.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Freda Mae, and his son, Carl Edward Tomblin; two brothers, Orville and Ray; and one sister, Mable Hall.He is survived by one son, former Governor Earl Ray (Joanne) Tomblin of Chapmanville; one brother, Sherman (Donna) Tomblin of Bluefield, WV; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Tomblin of Prosperity, WV; grandsons, Carl Edward (Summer) Tomblin of Chapmanville, WV, and Brent (Brittany) Tomblin of Charleston, WV; great-grandson, Ryder Earl Tomblin; great-granddaughter, Saylor Kate Tomblin; and many relatives and friends.He was a successful businessman, owning and operating many businesses in the area.During his younger years, he served as Magistrate and Sheriff of Logan County.He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and Greyhound racing as well as being an avid gardener and faithful member of the Chapmanville Church of God.His favorite moments were spending time with his family and friends, sharing a good meal.The family wishes to thank the doctors, volunteers, and staff at Charleston Area Medical Center, Logan Regional Medical Center, and the Hubbard House of Charleston, WV, for their compassion and assistance at this time. They also wish to thank his loving and compassionate caregivers, Kathy Spry and Dorothy Vance, over many months.The family will miss his humbleness, generosity, kindness and warmth.Pallbearers are Carl Tomblin II, Brent Tomblin, Greg Hall, Ray Hall, Benny Eplin, and George Barker.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home in Chapmanville, WV, beginning at 11:30 am followed by a service honoring his life at 1:00 pm, with Bishop Michael Davis officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV, following the service.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Chapmanville Church of God or Hubbard House of Charleston, WV.Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
