Sanford, FL
Earl Richard Starkey, 77, of Sanford, Florida, formerly of Gibsonia, passed away on March 9, 2026. Born on July 23, 1948, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Lesko) Starkey. Earl proudly served in the United States Air Force before beginning a long career as a steamfitter with Local Union 449. After relocating to Florida, he contributed to several landmark projects, including the Kennedy Space Center and Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure. He later became a certified general contractor and established ERS Construction, Inc.
A man of deep faith, Earl worshipped at Grace Community Church and found great joy in weekly Bible studies. Known to many as “Mr. Fix It,” he generously mentored others and cherished time spent hunting with lifelong friends. He also delighted in sharing his passion for shooting sports with his family. A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he treasured above all the moments spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Schan (Habay) Starkey; his children, Tricia (Jorge) Feliu, Magie (James) Hodges, and Jonathan (Jessica) Starkey; grandchildren Cory Starkey, Savanna Hodges, Gavin Starkey, and Miya Hodges; his brother, Robert Starkey; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ann Peters.
