Dwight Reed

Dwight Reed

April 8, 1951 March 6, 2026

Lewiston, ID

Dwight Reed, a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on the morning of March 6, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was 74 years old.

Born on April 8, 1951, to Elmer (Archie) and Dixie Reed in Headquarters, Dwight entered the world alongside his older twin brother Doug, delivered by Dr. Christianson at his grandparents Peter and Veta Stump’s farm in Kendrick. At the age of three, his family moved to Lewiston, where he would live for the rest of his life. From an early age, Dwight developed a deep love for the outdoors and a remarkable talent for working with his hands. His childhood interests in auto mechanics, machining, carpentry, and masonry stayed with him throughout his life. A proud graduate of Lewiston High School in 1970, he was a member of the honor society.

In 1970, at the age of 19, Dwight began his career at Potlatch, where he worked for 41 years. He advanced to the position of head paper machine tender before spending his final years in the shops, maintaining mobile equipment and operating cranes. He approached every task with passion and a strong work ethic that earned the respect of everyone who knew him.

In 1979, Dwight married the love of his life, Cherri Weaver. Together for 47 years, they built a home filled with love and raised three children: Jerri Lynn, Jim, and Justen. He shared with them his enthusiasm for water skiing, jet boating, fishing, and hunting, while teaching them the value of hard work and self-reliance. As the years passed, Dwight made regular trips to visit his children in Alaska, Nebraska, and Washington. His greatest pride and joy were his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A true handyman, he was always ready to help his family with building and repairs, believing that anything worth doing was worth doing right.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Cherri Reed; his children, Jerri Lynn (Donny) Louden, Jim Alford, and Justen (Tammy) Reed; eight grandchildren, Cherilyn Lund, Tyler Alford, McKenna Slivensky, Wyatt Reed, Olivia Reed, Claire Reed, Katie Reed, and Eliza Reed; six great-grandchildren, Jameson Lund, Charlotte Lund, Bennett Lund, Kalena Alford, Jasper Box, and Natalie Alford; and his brothers, Doug Reed and David Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Dixie Reed. He will be laid to rest at Mountain View in Lewiston beside his parents. The family held a private gathering in his honor.
