Dwight E. Shelor, 88, of Floyd, Virginia, passed away on March 1, 2026. A man of strength, wisdom, and quiet competence, he left behind a life marked by dedication to his family, his profession, and the preservation of his family’s heritage.
Dwight earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Wichita State University and later became a licensed Professional Engineer. He built a distinguished career in the aerospace and energy sectors, ultimately serving as Associate Director for Radioactive Waste Management at the Department of Energy in Washington, DC.
Deeply rooted in Floyd, he was a founding member of the Captain Daniel Shelor Furnace Memorial. Alongside family, he helped design and construct the bridge, pavilion, and multi-use building on the property of his paternal ancestors, creating a lasting tribute to his family’s history.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia A. (Croteau) Shelor. Dwight is survived by his children, Nikia (Shelor) Liguori (Robert), Dwight E. Shelor, Jr. (Mais), and Valerie Croteau (fiancé Michael); his grandchildren, Mark Shelor (Julie), Silvana Liguori, Sydney Spurrell, and Aiden Bundy; and his dear friend and neighbor, William Vance. The family extends deep gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Sara Gettel, Mollie Burrows, Michael Still, and Doris Harris.
