Duane Berry Smith

November 14, 1946 March 8, 2026

Granbury, TX

Duane Berry Smith, 79, of Granbury, Texas, passed away on March 8, 2026, in Fort Worth. Born on November 14, 1946, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Zeke and Elsie Smith, Duane enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served in Vietnam. His years in the Marines helped shape his discipline, yet never diminished his enduring sense of humor.

After his military service, Duane worked in construction for many years, retiring from Herring Construction Group. He met Tracy Sterling on July 21, 2010, and they married on July 6, 2015, in McKinney, Texas. Their 11-year marriage was filled with love, laughter, and a shared appreciation for life’s lighter moments. Duane was an enthusiastic guitarist and songwriter, a part-time magician whose tricks brought delight, and an avid golfer who attended the Masters Tournament several times. A cancer survivor, he embraced a simple philosophy: eat dessert first.

Above all, Duane was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren, who were his greatest source of pride and his most appreciative audience.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy; daughters Cheryl and husband Guy Anderson, Theresa Fike, and Suzanne and husband Todd Fournier; grandchildren Cory, Ashley, Kyle, Forryst, Max, Justin, Will, and Jordan; stepchildren Chris and husband John Carrigan and Jeff and wife Holly Sterling; step-grandchildren Cole, Jack, Katie, and Jane; numerous great-grandchildren; and his sister, Nadine Fairley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zeke and Elsie; his sister, Kathleene; and his brother, Harold.
