Dr. Thomas A. Kavic

January 18, 1951 March 12, 2026

Sewickley, PA

Thomas Adam Kavic, M.D., 75, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rochester, Pennsylvania, Dr. Kavic lived a life defined by perseverance, faith, service to others, and deep devotion to his family. From an early age he showed remarkable academic promise, graduating as Valedictorian of Hopewell High School in 1969. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Franklin & Marshall College on an academic scholarship before achieving a historic milestone as the first deaf student to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1977. His determination and intellect opened doors for others as he completed his Radiology residency and fellowship in Special Procedures at the University of Pittsburgh Hospitals.

Dr. Kavic began his career as Assistant Professor of Radiology and Director of Vascular Radiology at West Virginia University in Morgantown. He later returned to Western Pennsylvania, where he served the community for many years as a radiologist with Heritage Valley Health System at the Sewickley, Beaver, and Kennedy campuses. He continued providing care through remote radiology services with vRad and numerous local medical practices. Deeply committed to advocacy, he served on the Board of the Beaver County Historical Society and the Governor’s Advisory Board for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, working to expand opportunities and accessibility for others.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Kavic enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson trike, operating as a licensed Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator, and studying American history—particularly the French and Indian War and the American Revolution—as well as Biblical archaeology. Above all, he was guided by his faith and his love for his family. He is remembered as a kind, generous, and compassionate man who faithfully served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was always willing to help others.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Kavic; his sons Mark Kavic, David Kavic (Laurel), and Daniel Kavic (Ingrid); and his cherished grandchildren Kalina, Nikola, Clark, and Greta. He is also survived by his brothers Dr. Michael S. Kavic (Patricia) and Dr. Timothy N. Kavic (Karen), his aunt Frances Acimovic, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Violet Kavic, his nephew John Kavic, his brother Dr. Alexander J. Kavic, and his in-laws Albert and Mary Kuhel. Dr. Kavic’s legacy of faith, perseverance, and service endures through his family and the many lives he touched.
