Dr. Kathleen M. Bissell of Aiken, South Carolina, died on March 11, 2026, at her home after a long illness. She was 69.
Born in Jamestown, New York, Kathy was the middle daughter of the late Harold A. and Marilyn Weaver Bissell. She grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she became a lifelong Girl Scout. The close friendships she formed at Girl Scout Camp Occoneechee remained important to her throughout her life.
Kathy attended Wake Forest University before earning her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University. She later received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Returning to Charlotte, she founded and operated The Charlotte Cat Clinic, the city’s first cat-exclusive veterinary practice. Her expertise and dedication brought comfort to countless cat owners and their beloved pets.
After more than twenty years in practice, Kathy retired to Aiken, South Carolina. She immersed herself in the local horse community while continuing to care for small animals through in-home euthanasia services. Her own home was always shared with one or more adopted stray cats.
She is survived by her two sisters, two nephews, one niece, their families, and several cherished friends.
