Doy Benitez was born on May 28, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to Wilfredo and Louise Benitez. He found his greatest joy in the simple things in life. Whether casting a line while fishing, sitting around a campfire, canoeing, or camping in nature, those quiet moments outdoors brought him peace and created some of his most cherished memories with family and friends. He also loved playing dominoes with his friends and sharing laughter with those around him.
One of Doy’s greatest passions was helping others. He was deeply devoted to the recovery community and spent much of his life in service to people working to rebuild their lives. With honesty and compassion, he offered guidance, encouragement, and understanding to anyone who needed it, mentoring many on their journeys toward a better future. He often reminded those around him that “the age of miracles is still with us—our own recovery proves that.” Doy also found purpose in sharing God’s message of hope and redemption with people the world had often given up on. His belief in second chances, faith, community, and friendship touched hundreds of lives.
To those who knew him, Doy will be remembered for his generous heart, his resilience, and the way he showed up for others without judgment. He loved his family with all his heart and left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Benitez; his grandparents, Mahala and Doy Asher; and his grandparents, Eusebia Dias Benitez and Eugenio Benitez.
He is survived by his father, Wilfredo Benitez; his children, Donavon (Page) Benitez, Megan (Clayton) Benitez-Daley, and Skyler Benitez; his wife, Kimberly Benitez; and his grandchildren, Kimber Daley, Julius Benitez, and Benjamin Benitez, as well as many other family members and friends. His family will cherish his memory and the lessons he passed on about perseverance, kindness, and living one day at a time.
