May 1, 1942— March 4, 2026
Milton, GA
Douglas Lee Johnston, 83, of Milton, Georgia, passed away on March 4, 2026. A man of deep faith and strong convictions, Doug held four great loves in his life, in this order: Jesus, the United States Army, Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Born in Charlotte in 1942, Doug achieved a notable milestone at age eleven when he became one of the youngest Eagle Scouts in the United States at that time. He graduated from Northside High School, the University of Georgia, and Emory Law School. From 1967 to 1969, he served his country as a legal officer in the U.S. Army with the rank of Captain. After practicing law for many years, he built a successful career in real estate sales with Wells Real Estate, blending his legal expertise with a natural talent for connecting with people.
In 2001, Doug married Lynne Wisdom, and together they shared a lighthearted promise to grow old together without ever growing up. For the past thirty years, he served faithfully as a Gideon, finding special purpose in his weekly Wednesday night visits to the Smyrna City Jail, where he spoke with prisoners about finding hope and new life in Jesus.
Doug was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Branan Johnston, and his younger brother, Tim Johnston. He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Lynne Wisdom Johnston, his sister, Gerri Lyn Johnston Buice, and his three children, Douglas Lee Johnston, Jr., Joanna Johnston Smith, and Branan McLeod Johnston. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren.
