Douglas Duncan ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes - Sac City on Mar. 2, 2026.Douglas "Doug" Duncan, age 74 of Sac City, IA, formerly of Spencer, IA, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, for both Doug and his beloved wife Kate who passed away on November 13, 2024, at the South Park Shelter House in Sac City.Doug was born on July 14, 1951, to Glen and Emma (Friesner) Duncan at Loring Hospital in Sac City. He grew up in Sac City and attended Sac Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1969.Following high school, Doug worked for Town & Country Electric. During this time, he proudly served as a member of the Sac City Volunteer Fire Department, beginning what would become his life's vocation. He later attended Des Moines Area Community College, graduating with an associate's degree in Fire Science. After completing his degree, Doug accepted the position of Fire Chief in Spencer where he served with dedication and integrity until his retirement.Doug was active in the Kiwanis Club and greatly valued the friendships he formed throughout his years in Spencer. On April 28, 1973, he married the love of his life, Kathleen "Kate" Clinton, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City. The couple built a life together in Spencer until the devastating June 2024 flood that destroyed their home. Doug and Kate relocated to Sac City but often spoke fondly of Spencer and their hope of returning one day.Kate passed away on November 13, 2024, a loss that deeply affected Doug. He later entered Park View Rehabilitation Center, where he spent his remaining days. During his time there, he found companionship and comfort in his roommate, whose presence brightened his days.Doug was known for his soft-spoken nature, gentle kindness, and genuine warmth. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.He is survived by his brothers, Dennis (Jean) Duncan of Granger, IA, and Dale (Sue) Duncan of Sac City, IA; sister Glenda (Bob) Olerich of West Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law Cleo Kitt of Sac City, IA; sister-in-law Mary Suchorski of Ankeny, IA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.Doug was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kate; parents Glen and Emma Duncan; and his parents-in-law Lyle and Edith Clinton.Memorials may be directed to the Spencer Fire Department or the Sac City Volunteer Fire Department in Doug's honor, reflecting his lifelong dedication to fire service and community.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
