September 24, 1959— March 8, 2026
Tuscola, IL
Douglas Charles McCrory, 66, of Tuscola, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, March 8, 2026. He was at his son’s house, where he had enjoyed a walk around the property before beginning a project that included visits from his cousin Mike Morris and his close friend Mark “Buddy” Geiler.
Born on September 24, 1959, the second child of Ralph and Carolyn McCrory, Doug graduated from Tuscola High School in 1977. He moved to Texas, where he met the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” McFadyen. They married on November 3, 1983, and spent the next eleven years in the Port Arthur area. While living in Texas they welcomed their first child, Carly, before relocating to Tuscola, where they completed their family of six with the births of Sarah, Jackson, and Halle.
Doug was a loving husband and a hardworking, caring father who cherished his family and made sure his wife and children always knew how deeply they were loved. Every departure was marked by a kiss, a hug, and an “I love you.” He played guitar and passed along his love of music, introducing his children to artists such as The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Don Henley, Warren Zevon, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Bob Seger. He taught them practical life lessons—how and when to check the oil, sound financial planning, loyalty to the St. Louis Cardinals, strategies for euchre and dominoes, and the importance of always choosing dessert, preferably cobbler or cheesecake.
Known for his quick, perfectly timed humor, Doug had a gift for making people laugh and feel joyful. He was a devoted partner for nearly fifty years and the “BEST Dad” for nearly four decades. In the last seven years he proudly carried the title of Papa Doug, spending countless hours with his seven grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, practiced conservation, and was an avid hunter all his life. A respected and dedicated coworker, he retired from Energy Transfer in 2022 after nearly forty years with the company.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy of Tuscola; children, Carly (Tate) McCrory-McKay of Champaign, Sarah (Shane) Wasiloski of Tuscola, Jackson (Taylor) McCrory of Sadorus, and Halle (Chandler) Kerns of Tuscola; grandchildren, Leona, Hazel, Myles, Adalynn, Baker, Eleanor, and Gemma; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Jackson of Tuscola; siblings, David (Julie) McCrory of Tuscola and Kathy (Steve) Gentry of Sadorus; and in-laws, Jane (Steve) Alagna, Jeff (Barbara) McFadyen, and Norma (Mike) Tavares. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Christine McFadyen.
Doug’s legacy of love, laughter, and quiet care will live on through his family, who will miss him deeply.
