Douglas Alan FieldsApril 13, 1951 – March 9, 2026Douglas "Doug" Alan Fields passed away on March 9, 2026, after a life lived with ambition, adventure, and an enduring love of the open water.Born on April 13, 1951, in Bridge City, Texas, Doug was raised with a strong work ethic instilled by his father, Joe Fields, alongside whom he learned the craft of home construction from an early age. After graduating from Bridge City High School, Doug went on to study Building Construction at Texas A&M University and was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets, Company G2 – and though life took him in a different direction before graduation, he remained a devoted Aggie to the end.Doug built a distinguished career in construction that spanned decades and continents. He rose to become a respected project manager on major highway and infrastructure projects, contributing meaningfully to communities across Florida. His expertise even carried him overseas, where he spent several years in Saudi Arabia as part of a large-scale international construction project. In his later years, he returned to his roots, partnering in residential remodel and construction – the kind of hands-on work that first shaped him as a young man.For many years, Doug called Southwest Florida home, and it suited him well. His greatest joy outside of work was the sea. He spent countless hours sailing the waters in and around Florida with friends – finding in those voyages the freedom and peace that defined him at his best.Doug is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Bowyer and her husband Scott, and Jennifer Fields; his grandsons, Adam Ballenger and Braden Ballenger and his great-granddaughter, Kamryn Ballenger. He's also survived by his sisters, Debbye Waller, and Connie Dean and her husband Randy along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, BJ (Joe) and Marjorie Fields.Doug was a man of many chapters – some near, some far – but always himself. He is remembered with love and released with grace. May he rest in the peace of calm waters.A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM with a Service at 2:00 PM at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to St. Paul Global Methodist Church, 1155 West Round bunch, Bridge City, TX 77611.Gig 'em
