St. Simons Island, GA
Dorothy Runchka Tengowski, 92, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and formerly of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. Born on July 22, 1933, in Hanover Township to the late Michael and Charlotte Runchka, she dedicated much of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. She worked across the country, touching countless lives with her compassion and skill before choosing to focus on raising her children, a role she cherished deeply.
Dorothy had a gift for making those around her feel cared for and valued. She loved to travel, especially with her church group, sharing cruises and memorable trips to Canada. Her joyful spirit, warm smile, and ever-present kindness made her a beloved presence wherever she went. Creative and crafty, she was a talented seamstress with a special fondness for the color blue, a shade that reflected her peaceful and gentle nature.
Family was Dorothy’s greatest joy. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchild, and she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Michael Tengowski, and her daughter Janet Dennis. She is survived by her daughters Anne Skamarakus (Darryl) and Joan Englehart, six grandchildren Lauren, Michael, Meghan, Dylan, Christopher, and Cameron, one great-grandchild Samuel, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her devotion to her family, and the quiet joy she brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
