Dorothy Mercer ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Dennard First National Funeral Home - Winnsboro on Mar. 17, 2026.Funeral services for Dorothy Caldwell Mercer, 82, of Crowville, LA will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Crockett Point Baptist Church with Bro Richie Kelly and Bro Russell Caldwell officiating, with burial in the Crockett Point Church Cemetery under the direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, LA. Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Tuesday, March 17 at the church.Dorothy was born to the union of her parents, S.B. and Jewel Carson Caldwell on November 16, 1943, in Crowville, LA and was called home from this life on March 16, 2026. She was devoted wife, mother, mamaw, and friend; She was a member of Crockett Point Baptist Church from its conception. Dorothy was known for her love of singing and her beloved alto voice. She began singing with her dad's gospel group, "The Caldwell Singers", and later sang with the Crockett Point Ladies Group in which she formed a forever friendship with those ladies. Finally, she along with her husband, James, continued the family singing tradition by incorporating their daughters and are known to many as "The Mercer Family."She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, James, her parents, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Brown (Curtis), Elizabeth Cox (Bobby), Bobbie Smith (James), and Linda Boutwell.Survivors include daughters, Rhonda Lockridge (Ricky), Lori Hackney (Doug), Amy Windham (Andy). Grandchildren Eric Lockridge, Ashley Smith (Greg), Lauren Lockridge, Tyler Lively (Whitney), Cole Lively (Ashlee), Brayden Bassett, Annaleis Windham, Aubrey Windham, Heath Hackney (Natalie), Dylan Hackney, Lauren Neathery (Daniel), Chelsea Matthews (Dustin), and brother, Ricky Caldwell (Miriam), 13 Great-Grandchildren and a host of family and friends.Pallbearers are her grandsons.Honorary Pallbearers are Ricky Caldwell, Larry Cox, Rudy Eldridge, Jerry Mercer and Gary Mercer.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
