Dorothy M. (Nichols) Hewes

Dorothy M. (Nichols) Hewes of Hermon passed away on March 10, 2026. She was born on November 25, 1940, in Limestone, Maine, the daughter of John W. and Vivian (Moore) Nichols. When she was four, her family moved to Hudson. In 1957 she met the love of her life, Malcolm E. Hewes, and they married on November 6 of that same year. Together they raised six children: Donald, Donna, Deanna, Dana, Delia, and Darlene.

Dorothy grew up gardening and farming, work she continued throughout her life for her father-in-law, her own family, and many others. She was one of the early women truck drivers in the late 1950s, yet still found time to milk cows in the barn, cook for her family, and can the harvest from her garden. No visit was complete without a game of cribbage at her table. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband Malcolm, Dorothy was predeceased by her son, M. Donald Hewes, and her daughter, Darlene F. Hewes. She is survived by her children Donna Smith and husband Doug, their children Amy Cyr and Brandi Allen; Deanna Witham and husband Andy, their children Andy Witham and Mac Witham; Dana Hewes and Marilee Shorey, their children Amanda Wain and Danielle Hewes; Delia Hewes; and daughter-in-law Sandra Rodriguez, her children Carol-Ann Thomas and Donnie Hewes; along with twelve great-grandchildren and her very special friend Nicole Richardson.
