Weymouth, MA
Dorothy Marie Grasso (McCarthy), age 71, passed away on March 10, 2026, after a brief illness with dementia and lung cancer. She was surrounded by her children and nephew at the time of her passing.
Dottie was raised and educated in Braintree, graduating from Braintree High School in 1972. She went on to attend Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry, earning her certification as a dental assistant in 1973. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul, during the Blizzard of 1978, and the couple settled in Weymouth, where they raised their family. Dottie stayed home with their three children until they reached school age, then began a long career as a waitress at various South Shore restaurants, most notably the Venetian, where her quick wit and colorful vocabulary charmed countless diners.
She loved skiing, the Bee Gees, Lynnwoods Pizza, a cold Miller Lite, and her cats. A devoted daytime television fan, she followed The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless for many years. She cherished riding on the back of the Harley with Paul, sporting a do-rag with style, and the two of them enjoyed road trips on the bike, finding joy wherever they went as long as they were together. Dottie was the life of the party, known for her unfiltered personality, big heart, and biting humor. She took great pleasure in cooking Sunday family dinners and in family vacations to Lake Winnipesaukee. In her final year, she happily rekindled her love of painting.
Dottie is survived by her loving children, Nick Grasso and his wife Danielle of North Andover, Chris Grasso and his wife Sarah of New York, Kelly Noska and her husband Adam of Westboro, and her nephew Paul Johnson of Weymouth. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Everly, Oliver, Teddy, Penelope, and Anthony, as well as her siblings, Denise Barlow of Yarmouth, Diane Palermo of Sandwich, and Paul McCarthy of Quincy. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends whom she loved dearly. Dottie was predeceased by her loving husband and soul mate of 42 years, Paul A. Grasso of Weymouth, who passed in 2020.
She was truly one of a kind and will be loved, missed, and remembered with a smile by all.
