Dorothy Jones

April 1, 1932 March 16, 2026

Metter, GA

Dorothy “Dot” Louise Holloway Jones passed peacefully at home on March 16, 2026, with her family by her side. Just weeks shy of her 94th birthday, Dot grew up on the Holloway Farm in the Evergreen Community as the daughter of the late Annie Bell Smith Holloway and Jessie Thomas Holloway.

A brunette beauty, she was crowned Miss Candler County while at Metter High School. After graduating, she attended Georgia Teachers College, now Georgia Southern, where she was named Miss GTC. She met C.B. Jones on a blind date arranged by Mrs. Martha Cannady, and on December 11, 1949, they eloped to Stilson, Georgia, marrying in the pastor’s home. They recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary surrounded by family. Dot worked alongside C.B. at their Western Auto Store in the 1960s, served in the Tax Commissioner’s office for more than twenty years, and later sold real estate at Jones Realty. She and C.B. were proud founding members of Willow Lake Golf Club, where they spent many happy days on the course together and with friends. A scratch golfer, Dot won numerous area tournaments with her partner Faye Cardell and recorded countless hole-in-ones. In her younger years she was a talented artist who loved interior design, and she took great pride in keeping her home and gardens immaculate. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, the Historical Society, and the Willow Lake Ladies Golf Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Bell and J.T. Holloway; her sister, Betty Jo Mosley; and her great-grandson, Bennett Hudson.

Dot is survived by her husband, C.B. Jones; daughters Holly (Paul) Bennett of Alma and Hope (Reid) Hailey of Atlanta; sister Nancy Whiddon; grandchildren Matt (Reagan) Wood, Thomas (Jackie) Bennett, Reid (Caroline) Hailey, Olivia Hudson, and Natalie (JP) Sullivan; and great-grandchildren Carson, Nash, Avery, Reid III, Ruffin, Benjamin, and Reagan.
