Dorothy Jean Johnson-Smith

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Johnson-Smith, lovingly known as “Dot,” was born on July 4, 1939, in Dothan, Alabama, to Taylor T. and Beulah Thomas Johnson. She graduated from East High School in 1957 and later earned her STNA certification from Omni. A devoted homemaker, Dorothy was a longtime member of Union Baptist Church and served as co-chairperson of the social committee at Edgewood Apartments. She also worked for J. C. Penney. She found joy in pottery, sewing, playing bingo, and card games.

Dorothy passed away on March 9, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, at the age of 86, surrounded by her family. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Darrell (Angie) Smith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her daughter Deatrice (Tyrone) Traylor of Youngstown; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Leroy Smith; a daughter, Erica Smith; six brothers, Sam, Taylor, Louis, Paul, Clarence, and James; and one sister, Annie Jewel King.
