Dorothy I. McHugh-Bassett

Dorothy (Hartley) McHugh-Bassett passed away on March 11, 2026 at the age of 86. Born in Providence to the late Alberta (Curry) and Richard Harold, she graduated from Central High School. Dorothy worked for many years at Gorham Textron, Atlantic Coal & Oil, and later retired from Ross Simmons.

She is survived by her devoted husband of many years, William “Bill” Bassett, and her two sons, Scott McHugh of Johnston and Kevin McHugh (Jessy) of Thompson, Connecticut. She also leaves her brother, Thomas Hartley, as well as three stepsons, Brian (Marilyn), Darryl (Rachael), and Kevin (Larissa) Bassett. Dorothy cherished her step-granddaughters Dawn Barry, Tres-Belle, and Lavender, along with her many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by her stepson William Bassett and by three siblings, Gertrude, Richard, and Marilyn.

Dorothy will be remembered for her quiet strength, her deep love of family, and the steady presence she offered to all who knew her.
