Dorothy Godwin George

Dorothy L. "Dot" (Godwin) George, age 89, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born in Savannah, Georgia on April 19, 1936, she was raised by her loving parents, Claude and Agnes Godwin, in Pierce County and Waycross, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1958 and worked as a home demonstration agent in Georgia before marrying and moving to Florida in the early 1960s.

Dot and her husband, Charles, raised their three children in Fort Walton Beach. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach, she volunteered in the church nursery, taught Mission Friends, and led Training Union. She also served as a substitute teacher at Elliott Point Elementary School for 25 years. She found joy in reading, researching and preserving family history and photographs, and collecting antiques.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles M. George Sr., and her parents. She is survived by her children, Charles M. George Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, Len (Julie) George of Hartwell, Georgia, and Grace George of Fort Walton Beach; and four grandchildren, Caroline (Cooper) Larson, Claudia George, Franklin George, and Shealy George.
