Dorothy G. Sheaffer

Dorothy G. Sheaffer, 97, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on February 10, 2026 at Legend of Lancaster. Born in Goodville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Laura (Woomert) Sheaffer.

Dorothy was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the former New Holland High School and Millersville State College. She taught school in Caernarvon Township area, the Salisbury Township area which became the Pequea Valley District for a total of 37 years.

When Dorothy was 8 years old, she took an interest in the trumpet. In her early years, she was active in many local bands and was featured as trumpet soloist which included the New Holland Victory Band and other musical groups. Dorothy was in a dance band, with four other women called The Sophisticates where she played the trumpet.

Dorothy is survived by her close friends: Judi R. Graver, Linda Hoffecker and Glada Hettinger. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Violet Overly and Hope Hurst; Niece, Nancy Hess; and nephew, Theordore Overly.
