Dorothy E. Hiles
April 13, 1935— March 7, 2026
Lodi, CA
Dorothy E. Hiles of Lodi, California, formerly of Tracy, passed away on March 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 13, 1935, in the family home in Tracy to parents George and Isabel Silva, Dolly was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1953 and began her working life as an usher at the Grand Theatre downtown. She remained in Tracy for fifty years, where she raised her own family.
Dolly led an active life centered on faith and generosity. She made time for spirituality each day, often speaking of those she prayed for, and gave generously to Catholic and Veterans organizations. She cherished travel, with special memories of visiting Las Vegas, watching the space shuttle Atlantis launch in Florida, and taking day trips throughout California with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite destination was the ocean in Santa Cruz.
She is survived by her children, Bill (Dianna) Hiles of Lodi, Janine Hiles of Lodi, and Bob (Lori) Hiles of Orange, California; grandchildren Elaina (Hiles) Liedtke, Billy Hiles, Spencer Hiles, Stewart Hiles, Harley Hiles, and Ian Hiles; great-grandchildren Stephanie Liedtke, Adam Liedtke Jr., and Brandon Liedtke; two step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her god-daughter, Diana Alves. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Isabel Silva, and all of her siblings, George (Elsie) Silva, Joseph Silva, Gertrude (Ray) Dana, John (Georgeann) Silva, Mary Alves, and Elizabeth Silva.
Dolly’s devotion to her family will be remembered most of all. Her unfiltered honesty made her one of a kind, yet she greeted everyone with a warm smile and a hug. She loved chocolate, root beer, a good Portuguese Festa, Downton Abbey, and Jeopardy, and she played Spoons with unmatched enthusiasm. Above all, she treasured lunches, family gatherings, and playing board games with the children around the table.
