Bluffton, SC
Dorothy “Dottie” Tanner passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Fairfax, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Myron Cupp and Frances Stover Thorne. From an early age, Dottie carried a gentle and compassionate nature and a song in her heart that defined the way she lived her life. She worked as a singer, telephone operator, and accounting clerk, yet her most cherished roles were those of wife, mother, and grandmother.
Dottie shared more than 55 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Charles, building a life together rooted in enduring love, loyalty, and family. She was a deeply devoted mother to her children, Michael and Laurie, who were the center of her world. She supported them through every stage of life with unwavering love, encouragement, and pride, always placing their needs before her own. Her joy grew even greater when she became a grandmother to Grayson and Ellie. She cherished every moment with them, attending nearly every sporting event, awards assembly, and Grandparent’s Day celebration, never missing a milestone.
Known for her kind heart and gentle, welcoming spirit, Dottie lived her life putting others first, offering kindness, comfort, and support whenever it was needed. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband Charles; her children, Michael (Shelly) and Laurie (Dan); her grandchildren, Grayson and Ellie, as well as Rachel (Roger) Tian and Gracie Rorie. The love she shared with her family and friends remains her lasting legacy. She will be forever cherished and deeply missed by all who knew her.
