Dorothy Burt

Dorothy Burt (nee Maschinski), 87, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Ames Family Hospice following a brief illness.

Born February 7, 1939 in Amherst, Ohio, Dorothy remained a lifelong resident of the Amherst and Lorain communities, where she built a life rooted in family, service, and dedication to others.

She graduated from Lorain High School in 1957 and went on to become an active member of Teamsters Retirees Local 571, where she proudly served as an officer. Dorothy had a generous spirit and gave her time freely, volunteering with the Lorain County 4-H and at Firelands Local Schools.

Dorothy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved tending to her garden, baking for those she cared about, crocheting, and cheering on her granddaughter at horse shows and bowling events. She was her granddaughter’s biggest supporter. She also had a special fondness for the music of Willie Nelson, which brought her much happiness over the years.

She is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Erika (Matthew) Rooker of Amherst; her son-in-law, Billy Richardson of Amherst; her brother, Russell (Debbie) Cromwell of Lorain; many cherished nieces and nephews; and her favorite grand-dog, Tucker

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Burt; her daughter, Mary Louise Richardson; her parents, Anthony Maschinski and Victoria (nee Sescila) Cromwell.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 23, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with The Reverend Jim Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion.
