Dorothy Ann (O'Brien) Cimpi, age 91, died peacefully on March 13, 2026, at Glendale Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 23, 1934, in Auburn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence (Keogan) O'Brien. After graduating from St. Joseph's Nursing School in Rochester, N.Y., Dorothy married her beloved husband, Joseph William Cimpi, on November 26, 1955. She devoted her career to nursing, first as a school nurse for Shenendehowa Central Schools and then as a registered nurse serving the Capital District, with a special focus on Clifton Park.
Dorothy possessed a natural gift for nursing that she shared generously throughout her life, offering care and expertise to family, friends, and strangers alike. Beyond her professional dedication, she was known for her warm, fun-loving spirit and the deep, enduring relationships she formed with those around her. She also found great joy in playing bridge, competing in various leagues and continuing the game with skill and enthusiasm until her final years.
She is survived by her children, David (Lori) Cimpi, Ann (Joseph) Yund, Thomas (Cindy) Cimpi, Margaret "Margy" Kasky, and Daniel (Ginger Craig) Cimpi; her grandchildren, Joseph (Carly) Cimpi, Anthony Cimpi, David Cimpi Jr., Michael (Michele Maxwell) Yund, Patrick (Jacqueline) Yund, Joseph (Caroline) Yund, Gregory (Morgan) Yund, Robert (April) Kasky III, Emily (Raymond Watson) Kasky, Daniel "Johnny" (Jessica) Cimpi Jr., and Steven (Stephanie) Cimpi; seven great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; her sisters-in-law, Barbara O'Brien and Carleen O'Brien; and her lifelong friends, Kathleen Vetrano and Barbara Avino.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas O'Brien and R. Patrick O'Brien; her sister, Jean O'Brien Bockes; and her dear lifelong friends, Margaret "Peggy" Savage and Mary Ann O'Toole Maywalt.
