Cumberland, RI
Dorothea (Savvides) Stergis, 94, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at The Holiday Retirement Home in Manville, Rhode Island. She was the loving wife of the late George P. Stergis.
Born in Pawtucket to the late Savvas Savvides and the late Sophia (Zavaliangos) Castellucci, Dottie graduated from Pawtucket West High School. She lived in Cumberland for the past sixty-two years. Early in her life, she worked alongside her mother at Sophie's Miracle Beauty Shop in Pawtucket and with her mother, stepfather Archie, and brother Frederic at Archie's Tavern. Later, Dottie and her husband George founded Stergis Supply Inc. in Providence in 1969, which later moved to Pawtucket.
A lifelong member of Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Pawtucket, she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and was an active member of the church's PTO. Dottie was known for her warmth and generosity, especially in the kitchen, where she delighted in cooking and baking for family birthdays and holidays. Her Spanakopita, Avgolemono soup, stuffed leg of lamb, Baklava, Greek Easter bread, Grapenut pudding, and Apple strudel were cherished family favorites.
She is survived by her brother, Frederic Castellucci; daughters Cynthia Mulvey and Lauren Stergis; son Christopher Stergis; and was the mother of the late Susan Vendetti. She leaves six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will carry forward her loving spirit.
