Doris Malcom Neel

Doris Susanette Malcom Neel, born January 22, 1948, in Perry, Florida, to David Harris Malcom and Millie Wood Malcom, passed away at home on March 11, 2026, surrounded by her family after a 17-year battle with breast cancer.

Throughout her life, Doris worked tirelessly, often holding three jobs at once. For many years she served as a waitress at Roy’s, Pouncey’s, and Swain’s. In 1987 she began driving a school bus and continued in that role until this school year, with a brief period spent working as a correctional officer at Taylor CI. She faced every challenge with quiet strength and deep faith, often saying that the Lord carried her through every step of her illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Clifford “Bob” Neel Jr., her daughter Rebecca Lee Neel Lundy, her parents Dave and Millie Malcom of Steinhatchee, her brothers William A. Malcom and Franklin Harden of Steinhatchee, and her grandsons Jason Hanson and Robert Micklos of Perry.

Doris is survived by her sister Ann White of Steinhatchee; her children, Richard Neel of Perry, Susan Neel (Mike Mihalic) of Perry, and Jessica (Donny) Fittje of Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her hard work, her enduring faith, and the love she showed to her large and loving family.
