Doris Louise Seader Brewton

Doris Louise Seader Brewton

Bethel Park, PA

Doris Louise Seader Brewton passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on Sunday, March 8, 2026. She was the daughter of Louise Salome Bene Seader and James Adams Seader. A graduate of Cheltenham High School in Philadelphia, Doris married Robert Godshall Brewton in 1950. After working to support him through college, she devoted herself to raising their family as a loving homemaker and mother.

Following Robert’s death at age 58, Doris built a full and independent life on her own terms. She returned to part-time work, steadfastly protecting her Tuesday and Thursday golf schedule, and remained an active member of Christ United Methodist Church for 69 years. A dedicated volunteer with Prime Time and other church initiatives, her greatest passion was golf. She was deeply involved with the Western Pennsylvania Women’s Golf Association and continued playing until the age of 90, only reluctantly setting the game aside when she could no longer play at the level she expected of herself.

Doris was predeceased by her husband Robert, her parents, her brother James Harry Seader (May), her sister Marion Salome Ramsey (John), her son David Robert Brewton, her daughter-in-law Jo Ellen Humphries Brewton, and her grandson Joel’s husband Kenneth Riling. She is survived by her son Stephen Michael Brewton and his wife Judith; her daughter Beverly Louise Brewton James and her husband Richard; and her daughter-in-law Barbara Buckingham Brewton. She was a devoted “Nan” to her grandchildren John Brewton (Fabiola), Peter Brewton (Jennifer), Anna Jackson (Ryan), Joel Brewton, Tom Brewton, and Charles, as well as her great-grandchildren Ellie, James, Tinsley, Izzie, Zeke, and Gabriela Jo Ellen. She is also survived by the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Richard James, who became cherished members of her extended family.

Doris lived a long and vibrant life, walking over a mile a day until just months before her passing. She maintained friendships across generations and inspired many with her spirit and optimism. Her favorite saying—“Never say you’re getting old—say you’re getting older”—reflected the grace and determination with which she embraced every stage of life.
