SOUTHBRIDGE – Doris W. Kiura, 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on March 1, 2026 after a courageous and hard fought battle of cancer diagnosed less than 2 years ago. Throughout her illness, Doris showed remarkable strength and grace, a true testament of who she was.
May 11, 1968, Doris was born in Kirinyaga Kenya. She attended Ngararia Secondary school before continuing her studies at Kamagambo Teachers College, where she graduated and began her career as a teacher. Doris spent many years teaching in Kenya, a role that reflected her gift for caring and helping others.
In 2001, while expecting her first child Doris made the life changing decision to move to the United States for a brighter future of her growing family and new opportunities. With her determination and hope she pursued the American dream for her children and built a life rooted in sacrifice and love. After settling in Massachusetts Doris continued her lifelong calling of caring for others as a Nurse’s Aide and then graduated QCC of Worcester working as nurse at places like Southbridge Rehab and Pinnacle Homecare.
A natural born caregiver, Doris was known for her kind and generous demeanor. She was loved by many and profoundly touched the lives of everyone she knew. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and was always up for watching a rom-com movie. She had a beautiful smile and an infectious laughter that will be missed by family and friends alike.
Doris is survived by her mother Thelma Murangi Kiura along with husband Peterson Gachagua, her children, Vanessa Joy Gachagua and Emma Abigail Gachagua; bonus children Karen Gachagua, John Mwangi, and Fredrick Mwangi; siblings Esther M Kiura, David G Kiura, Richard G Kiura, John N Kiura, and Susan W Kiura; her best friend Eunice Waweru; beloved dog Bruno; and countless friends, nieces, and nephews.
Predeceased by her late father Micah Kiura Gaching’a and sister Ruth W Kiura.
May Doris rest in eternal peace, free from pain, and may she be remembered for the love and light she brought into the lives of others.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, March 11th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Kelly Cremation and Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln Street in Worcester. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13th at 10:00 AM in the funeral home followed by the burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
