Doris Jean Simms, 82, of Anawalt, WV in McDowell County, and current resident of Mercer County for almost twenty years, died March 3, 2026 peacefully after a long illness with hospice care and surrounded by her family. Born May 3, 1943 in Pageton, WV, she was a daughter of the late Fred Mitchell and Ethel Mullens Sharrone. Doris attended First Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, WV. She was always full of joy and loved taking care of people. Doris loved children, but most of all she loved the Lord.

In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her step-father, Elbert Carbide Sharrone; husband, Harry Edward Simms; sister, Patsy Lee Coe and her husband, Eddie Coe; brother, Paul "Butch" Sharrone; and granddaughter, Amanda Ferrentino Head.

Those left to cherish Doris' memory are her children, Fred Thomas Simms and fiance, Christina Clark of Princeton, WV, and Laura Jean Simms and Marcello Ferrentino of Arcadia, FL; siblings, Phyllis and Allen Whitehead of Somonauk, IL, and Kathy Hornick of Gary, WV; grandchildren, James Lowmark "Jimmy" of Arcadia, FL, Brandon and Yvonne Ferrentino of Orlando, FL, Coby Powell and Arcadia, FL, Kyle and Hannah Ferrentino of Arcadia, FL, Branden Simms of Princeton, WV, Aaron Simms of Fort Pierce, FL, Renee Simms and Aaron C. Stone of Mineral Wells, WV; great-grandchildren, Cory Head of Arcadia, FL, Sarah Sophia Ferrentino of Arcadia, FL, Elias Ferrentino of Arcadia, FL, Trevor Fitzko of Corrine, WV, Dante and Damon Ferrentino of Orlando, FL, and nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, March 9, 2026 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Coe officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where Branden Simms, Aaron Simms, William Clark, Kyle Ferrentino, Jonathan Hornick, and John Hooper "J.J." will serve as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
