Doris Jean Riutzel

Doris Jean Riutzel, known to all as Jean, passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 99 in Bradford Villa. She was born on March 16, 1926, in Canton, Missouri, the daughter of Randall and Mabel (Esslinger) Morey of LaGrange, Missouri. On June 8, 1947, she married M. Dale Riutzel in the home of her beloved aunt and uncle, George and Corrine Richter, one mile north of Taylor, Missouri. The couple made their home in Quincy, Illinois, until Dale’s death on February 9, 2001.

Jean graduated from LaGrange School and Chillicothe Business College. A longtime member of Ellington Presbyterian Church in Quincy, she sang in the choir for many years, played piano and organ, and performed at numerous church weddings. While living in Naples, Florida, she attended St. Peter the Apostle Church. She maintained an active social life, belonging to Spring Lake Country Club for more than fifty years, singing with Volunteer Voices, volunteering at Blessing Hospital, and participating in the Order of the Eastern Star, the Adams County Republican Women’s Club, the Elks Club, and the Twin Oaks Club. She also enjoyed water aerobics at Quincy College Gym and the KROC Center.

Above all, Jean cherished time with her family. She took great delight in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, faithfully following their activities and sharing in their lives. At the age of 93, she traveled with family to Aruba. She had a deep love for animals and found special joy in the company of her cat Muffin and the family dogs Kaci, Niki, and Molly.

Jean is survived by her children, Marc (Ann) Riutzel of Quincy and Renee Schlueter of Quincy; her grandchildren, David (Misty) Riutzel, Eric (Angela) Riutzel, Alexa (James) Reid, Tom Schlueter, Jim (Jan) Schlueter, Kristin (John) Smith, and Kara (Bill) Bradshaw; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Peg Morey. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Dale Riutzel, her son-in-law Bucky Schlueter, and her brother Paul Morey.
