Doris Inez Slaughter Hopper, 82, of Macon, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born on June 20, 1943, in Montrose, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late James Wilson Slaughter and Gladys Louise Sapp.
Doris devoted her life to her family as a loving homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with care, comfort, and unwavering love. She took great pride in nurturing her loved ones and ensuring they were always surrounded by kindness and support. Her home became a cherished gathering place where family and friends were received with open arms.
In quieter moments, she found joy in preparing delicious meals for her family, sharing recipes and traditions around the table. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and crocheting, creating beautiful handmade items that became treasured keepsakes. When her children were young, she and her husband, Elijah, made many lasting memories on family camping trips filled with laughter and storytelling.
Above all, Doris treasured her time with family. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by those she loved, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored deeply. Her love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Elijah Barnett Hopper, Sr., her sister Dale Slaughter, and her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Elijah B. (Cindi) Hopper, Jr. of Macon and Timothy Blocker of Macon; her daughters, Tina Hopper of Macon, Susan (Thomas) Tedders of Macon, and Melinda (Jeff) McCommon of Warner Robins; six grandchildren, Chase (Sarah) Hopper, Taylor Hopper, Zack Tedders, Austin (Victoria) Tedders, Josh (Amy) McCommon, and Kaylee (Joshua) Wood; five great-grandchildren, Madison McCommon, Dean Hatton, Jackson Wood, Theo Hopper, and John Hopper; and her beloved dog, Savannah.
