Lewisburg, TN

Doris Dalton Hicks, age 80, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Marshall Medical Center.

Born on April 1, 1945, in Lewisburg to the late J. D. and Ruth Norris Darnell, Doris lived a life marked by warmth, humor, and a deep love for family and animals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Dalton, her daughter Loretta Dalton, her great-granddaughter Dixie Blackwell, and her brothers Ellis and Eugene Darnell.

She is survived by her husband Marion Hicks; daughters Lisa Morris of Farmington and Kelsey Foster of the Yell Community; sister Linda Coyle of Lewisburg; brothers Calvin and Freddie Darnell, both of Lewisburg; stepchildren Fay Wiser, Pat McCord, Doug Dalton, Mark Dalton, and Guy Dalton; grandchildren Casey Morris, Eric (Sarah) Blackwell, and Scotty (Cherry) Blackwell, all of Lewisburg; and great-grandchildren Melleeine Blackwell, Ethan Blackwell, and Hunter Blackwell.

A longtime member of Farmington Baptist Church, Doris was cherished for her beautiful singing voice. She spent many years in nutrition services at Leonard’s Hospital and later worked at Sanford. Known to many as “Ellie Mae Clampett” for her special way with animals, she delighted in raising squirrels and caring for birds and dogs. She found joy in completing jigsaw puzzles, telling jokes, making others laugh, and preparing holiday meals for her family. Her loving phrases, “I love you more” and “I am going to Hawaya!” will echo in the hearts of those who knew her. Affectionately called the “Queen of Bivins Hollow,” Doris will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
