Hazel Doris “Tot” Barnard passed away on March 13, 2026, her 95th birthday, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to Elizabeth and Erskine Gregory on March 13, 1931, in Gallatin, Tennessee, Tot lost her father at just 18 months old. In 1934 her mother married Lewis Edgar Lacy, and at the age of three Tot became a Lacy. Lewis loved her as his own until his death in 1964, and she gained seven siblings who cherished her for the next 92 years.
After graduating from Gallatin High School in 1949, Tot began her career with South Central Bell as a telephone operator. She advanced into management and retired in the late 1980s as a supervisor after more than 40 years of dedicated service. In retirement she found joy tending her flower gardens, reading, and volunteering at the Hartsville Pike Church of Christ, where she remained a faithful member for over 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Griffin Lacy, father Erskine McKinley Gregory, stepfather Lewis Edgar Lacy, sister Juanita Lacy Payne, and brother James Allen Lacy. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Paul) Beck, sisters Ann Robinson, Louise Lacy, Patricia Meiggs, Lena Lucas, and Caroly Lacy, and several nieces and nephews who shared special relationships with her and loved their Aunt Tot dearly.
