Honesdale, PA
Doris Ann Keesler, a woman of unwavering faith, tireless energy, and a legendary green thumb, passed away on February 27, 2026, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, at the age of 80.
Born on July 18, 1945, in Callicoon, New York, to Russell and Margaret Keesler, Doris grew up in the quiet hills of Galilee, Pennsylvania. She attended Damascus High School before bravely stepping into adulthood at a young age. With characteristic determination, she later earned her GED and graduated from Empire Beauty School with a diploma in cosmetology. She taught the craft to many others before transitioning into healthcare, where she retired as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Her deep faith in Christ Jesus remained a constant throughout her life, and she was a familiar and welcoming presence in many local congregations. Doris found joy and renewal in her garden, where she worked with remarkable skill. Her thriving plants were a source of pride, achieved through hard work and, as she often remarked, the remarkable power of a little horse manure.
Above all, Doris cherished her role as mother to her four sons. She often recounted with a mix of exasperation and affection how she had earned every gray hair raising her “four hellion boys,” frequently cycling through their names before reaching the right one. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patricia Hankins, and her beloved son Randy M. Nolan. Doris is survived by her sister Janet Roberts; her sons and their wives, Edward C. Nolan (Judy), Roger J. Shaffer Jr. (Judi), and Jason M. Shaffer (Julie); and her six grandchildren, Makayla Lamberton, Shaun Nolan, Calla Shaffer, Honour Keaton Shaffer, Logan Shaffer, and Dakota Shaffer, along with a large circle of extended family and dear friends at the Maple City Apartments.
