Doris Adeline Nye Maffitt, 91, of Champion, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Born on May 3, 1934, in Montour Falls, New York, Doris was the daughter of John Barlow Nye and Ethel Mae (Ganung) Nye Woodworth. A graduate of Southington High School, she worked at First Federal Savings and Loan, Packard Electric, and served as a licensed practical nurse at St. Joseph Riverside for 14 years. She also volunteered more than 4,500 hours in the gift shop at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

Deeply committed to her community and faith, Doris was a longtime member of Champion Christian Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir and participated in the Ladies Aid and various committees. She was also active in the Trumbull County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, serving as president from 1996 to 1997, and belonged to the Nye Family of America Association. In her leisure time, she found joy in quilting, writing poetry, dancing, and pursuing her passion for genealogy.

She is survived by her son, Glen (Debby) Maffitt of Johnston, Ohio; daughters, Janice (Thomas) Bruner of Cortland, Ohio, and Karen (Brian) Arnold of Champion, Ohio; grandchildren, Benjamin Maffitt of Kinsman, Ohio, Sarah (J.R.) Polk of Johnston, Ohio, Stephanie (Neil) Grantz of Mentor, Ohio, Rebecca (Marko) Klisovic of Moreland Hills, Ohio, Corey (Nicole) Bruner of San Mateo, California, and Steven Arnold of Champion, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Jaron, Kiersten, Gemma, Giada, Max, Allison, and Dean.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her stepfather, Justin Woodworth; her husband of many years, Delbert Leroy Maffitt, whom she married in 1952; and her siblings, Helen Brink, Otis Nye, John Nye, Donald Nye, and Betty Lendway.
